The Mirage Home Inventory Manager v1.1:
I'm not making any grand claims over this project. The origins were an attempt
to help my recently retired parents keep track of their household collection
of various items, ranging from China to furniture. As such, this form is
quite general in it's terms, but it should be useful for simple inventory needs.
The program is divided into five major sections: The Control Panel, Data Entry,
Reports, Summary and Quick-Look!
The Control panel is the title screen and a series of buttons allowing navigation
through the system. Everything is pretty straight forward here, just point and
click the button of the section you wish to move to.
Data Entry is the screen designed for the bulk of data entry processing. All
available fields show here, giving you a few button short-cuts to certain
routines, including two quick-sort features by Name or Category.
Print Reports brings you to a simple control allowing a summary or category
reports to be printed. Just click the appropriate button, and FileMaker will
sort the currently browsed records by Category, and by Item within Category.
Since it works off of the current browsed records, you can limit the printing
to whatever find criteria you use in the Data Entry or Quick-Look! section.
If you Find All, then a report will be printed from the entire collection.
A summary report will print each category, the number of items in that
category, the total value of that category and a grand total. Again, this
works off of the currently browsed records. You can limit the report to what
you want.
Summary is exactly that. A screen appears giving a total value, total number
of items in the database, and the highest, lowest, average and standard
deviation of the record values. As always, this screen works off of the currently
browsed records.
Quick-Look! is a scrolling list of the database, as an aid to locating mixed
data, or just as a means to see and modify more than one record at a time.
Though you can certainly print from this section, a Category Report from the
Reports section will look better.
To sum it all up, this template is pretty easy to use. The previous version 1.0
was locked, but I decided that it was easier on everyone if I unlocked the
template and made this easy to modify. It can be considered public domain. If
you have any suggestions for modification, or just comments about the template,
drop me a letter at:

I would appreciate comments for improvements, or just general opinions.
